Mission Day 1
Weather: Cloudy, Low 70s F, Passing Rain Showers Events: Arrival in Costa Rica! Dinner Rehearsal Lights-out News: We arrived on time in Costa Rica and boarded a bus to Campamento Bautista. The camp is very nice with 3 bunk beds in each dormitory room, and 4 rooms and 4 showers per dormitory. After dinner, the groups rehearsed until lights out. The first concert is planned for tomorrow at 2:00pm (Note: Costa Rica is in the Mountain Time zone). |
Mission Day 2
Weather: Partly Cloudy, low 70s F, PM Showers Events: Morning Rehearsal Afternoon Concert: School for Special Needs Children Evening Concert: Local Church News: We slept well overnight and then had a full morning of rehearsals. The afternoon concert included a performance by the school orchestra prior to the mission orchestra and choir. The school children seemed thrilled to be able to perform for us. Dinner: Filet Mignon (no kidding, there is a photo in today's pictures) The evening concert required 3-4 (I lost count) encore performances. |

Mission Day 3
Weather: Cloudy mid-70s F Events: Morning Concert: Childrens School Evening Concert: Local Theater News: Two concerts again today, morning and evening, with a break in the afternoon. The children at the school really enjoyed meeting with our kids after the concert. It was difficult to get our kids on the bus, they were having such a good time. The evening concert was close by so we got back to camp early... a it's a good thing, we leave early tomorrow morning for a two hour ride to our next concert. |
Mission Day 4
Weather: Sunny in the morning, low 80s, evening shower Events: Morning Concert: Montessori School Evening Concert: Local Theater News: The day started early (6:00 am breakfast) to allow for a 2-hour drive to the Montessori school. The visit was filled with joy. The children were captured by the music. Afterwards they participated in VBS (Vacation Bible Study) activities with our team. On the way back to camp, we made a brief stop at a beach to get our feet wet in the water and take in the view. The day concluded with a second concert at a local theater. |
Mission Day 5
Weather: Sunny, upper 70s F Events: Morning Concert: Local Village Afternoon Concert: Local Village We traveled to two different villages outside San Jose. We walked among the villages gathering children for concerts and VBS activities. It was a long day, but rewarding again as we witnessed the joy received through our music. After the concerts, we returned to camp for dinner, some free time, and worship. Tomorrow is our last full day of mission. We plan to go to a church service followed by a field trip. |
Mission Day 6
Weather:Low 80s F, Partly Cloudy Events: Morning Church service Field trip to volcano Shopping Dinner at local restaurant News: A day to relax. The day started with service at a local church. The service included performances by NLF ensembles and the choir. After lunch at the church, we did some site-seeing and shopping. We spent the evening at a local restaurant that served local seafood and other dishes. Then back to camp to prepare to leave -- flight is 6:18 am; the bus leaves camp at 3:30. |
