Mission Day 1 (Travel)
Weather: Partly Cloudy, 86 F, Humid Events: Arrival in Korea! Orientation Meeting News: We arrived on time in Korea, boarded a bus to the Mission Camp, ate dinner, attended an orientation meeting, and went to bed... more tomorrow! |
Mission Day 2 (Camp)
Weather: Partly Cloudy, Hot, Humid (A/C inside is cool, dry) Events: Korean Team Arrival! Welcome and Team Building Meeting First combined rehearsals News: We slept well overnight (rooms are nice and cool!) and we seem to have adjusted well to the time change. The Korean team arrived in the morning and rehearsals got underway in the afternoon. The evening included 'Recreation' activities that all seemed to enjoy (a great way to get to know each other better). |
Mission Day 3 (Camp)
Weather: Sunny, Hot (90s F), Humid (Cool inside!) Events: Rehearsal, followed by more Rehearsal News: We're staying at Jisan Forest Resort (picture at left) about 20-25 miles southeast of Seoul. Jisan Forest Resort is a ski lodge. The rooms are traditional Korean (i.e., we sleep on the floor on mats) and we have 5-7 people in each room. We eat all our meals in the lodge dining hall (very Korean -- kimchi for breakfast, lunch and dinner). Jisan Forest Resort is a great facility for our Mission Camp! |
Mission Day 3
Weather: Partly Cloudy, a few Showers, 90 F, Humid Events: Morning Concert: Men's Prison Afternon Concert: Women's Prison News: Most everyone was nervous about entering a prison to perform. We could only take our instruments (and lucky for me) one camera. Soon, everyone seemed to relax. The inmates were very respectful and curtious. Everyone performed well. The choir received rousing applause. At the end of the men's concert, they stood and shouted for an encore of 'Blessed Assurance' (Jonathan's sax solo). Through God's grace, their harded eyes seemed filled with joy as we left. |
Mission Day 4 (Camp)
Weather: Sunny, Hot (90s F), Humid Events: Rehearsals Testimony by Elder Moon News: This is the third day of rehearsals. It is also the third day of kimchi, rice, and soup with every meal (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). So, it was time to send out for pizza! And go outside for some recreation. The day was concluded with a very inspirational talk by Elder Moon. |
Mission Day 5 (Camp)
Weather: Sunny, Hot (90s F), Humid Events: 3 Rehearsals News: This is the last day to get ready for outreach performances. The kids have really worked hard. I'm listening now and they seem to be coming together well. Everybody is ready for the performances to begin. I'm looking forward to getting out and seeing a bit more of Korea and meeting more of the Korean people. There are 7 performances planned for the next 3 days. |

Mission Day 7 (Outreach)
Weather: Sunny, Hot (mid-90s F), Humid Events: Performance at Dongbu Church Performance at Military camp News: We drove to Chuncheon (about 2 hours away) for Sunday service at Dongbu Church. Following lunch at the church, we performed for the church members. It was a beautiful setting and a wonderful performance. We left Chuncheon for a military base about 10 minutes from the DMZ. In three years of missions, I can't recall a more spirited and enthusiastic audience than the troops at the base. They were terrific and so were our kids! What a great experience for all! |
Mission Day 8 (Outreach)
Weather: Sunny, Hot (mid-90s F), Humid Events: Performance at nursing home Performance at Dongsoong Church Award Ceremony at Dongsoong Church Farewells News: Today was our last day of Outreach performances. While everyone has worked hard and performed well, we have mixed feelings. We're tired, but sad to bid farewell to our friends. |
